Conventional IT wisdom would have us believe that Apple is not welcome in the enterprise, but the company is making great strides in the mobile segment.
Good Technology, a provider of enterprise mobile technology, revealed earlier this week that iOS devices captured 77 per cent of device activations among its 4,000 customers in the fourth quarter last year. Android lagged behind with only 22.7 per cent.
Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 5 was the most popular device, representing 32 per cent of all activations for that quarter. In the Android camp, the Samsung Galaxy S III was the most preferred smartphone at sixth position.
Android would do worse in the tablet arena. Every single iPad model (excluding the iPad mini) made an appearance in the list of top 10 devices activated, but not a single Android tablet broke through.
Nonetheless, Android tablets are gaining momentum, jumping from 2.7 per cent in Q4 2011 to 6.8 per cent in Q4 last year, according to Good Technology.
The company generated the data from all devices activated across its 4,000 customers worldwide, including enterprises in financial services, healthcare, and government.
