Tiger Airways pilots no longer need to carry heavy flight bags on board, after the the Singapore-based airline recently turned to new tablets to carry all the information they need on a flight.
Flight documents and guides are now stored on the tablets, which are protected by AES 256-bit, FIPS 140-2 encryption. This secure “content locker” means the information remains in the right hands, while making it easier and less stressful for pilots to access the information, according to the company that provided the technology to the airline.
AirWatch, a company that provides enterprise mobile technologies to large organisations, says its tablet makes use of technologies familiar with the airline industry. It relies on Airbus LPC applications for performance and Jeppesen, a Boeing company, for maps and charting.
Airlines can also distribute applications remotely to the tablets, to ensure that pilots are running the most updated versions of the applications.
