The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, the phone with a screen stretching over the edge, is coming to Singapore from November 22, with pre-orders starting today at noon.
The 4G+ version, which Singapore users are getting, is going for S$1,248, well past the usual S$1,000 threshold for high-end Android phones.
Gimmick or genius, the Galaxy Note Edge’s main selling point is its edge screen, which gives a glimpse of what’s going on with the phone, even if you have the screen covered. It also lets you react to notifications quickly, instead of the usual pulling down of a menu bar.
Other than that, the phone is similar to its cousin, the Galaxy Note 4, out in Singapore just recently. The Galaxy Note Edge comes with a slightly smaller 5.6-inch screen, instead of the 5.7-incher on the Galaxy Note 4.
The new phone is no slouch, obviously, with a feature-packed chassis. Expect a bright Super AMOLED screen with Quad HD+ resolution. Also onboard are 32GB of storage and a microSD card slot capable of reading cards with as much as 128GB of data.
If you baulk at the S$1,248 price, a subscription plan with a telecom operator might help offset some of the outlay.
SingTel and StarHub have come up with plans where the phone costs from S$0 to more than S$800. M1 has yet to publish prices on its website at the time of writing.
