Folks seeking low-cost smartphones can look to yet another two options in the Blade G and G Lux from Chinese manufacturer ZTE, when they debut in Singapore on February 9.
Gunning for bargain hunters, the Blade G Lux will go for S$149 and the Blade G will cost just S$95. When they first go on sale at the Qoo10 retail site, the Blade G Lux will sell for just S$99 for the first 20 sets, and S$119 for the rest of the launch day.
The ZTE phones don’t boast the latest hardware at that price, of course. The more expensive Blade G Lux sports a modest 4.5-inch screen, as well as a Mediatek 1.3GHz processor, 4GB flash memory and a 5-meg camera.
The Blade G has even less stellar hardware. With a 4-inch screen, 1GHz Mediatek processor, 4GB flash memory and 2-meg camera, it is truly a low-budget phone that reminds you of older specs from Android phones a few years ago.
Good news is, both phones have dual SIM cards lots, letting you pop in a second SIM card as you travel overseas. At the same time, they have microSD card slots for adding storage and run the still-modern Android 4.4 operating system.
ZTE’s price and hardware aim to rival popular budget models from Xiaomi and Asus, which have done well in Singapore in the past year. How well ZTE will do remains to be seen, but the company has clearly seen that there’s a market here for low-cost phones.
For users on the lookout for the absolute lowest cost smartphones, the ZTE Blade G Lux and Blade G will catch the eye with their price tags for sure.
