A new start-up facility will bring together tech investors, incubators and entrepreneurs under one roof, as part of efforts by the government to boost the startup scene in Singapore.
Spearheaded by Infocomm Investments Pte Ltd (IIPL), the investment arm of Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), the new facility, called BASH (Build Amazing Startups Here), will provide tech startups with a prototyping lab, plus access to community networks and mentorship.
Tech startups will also get a chance to tap on open data sets, develop ideas to tackle global challenges and work with technology accelerators such as Startupbootcamp FinTech, IDA said today.
Located at Block 79 of Singapore’s start-up hotbed JTC LaunchPad @ onenorth, the 25,000 square feet facility is touted as the largest integrated tech startup space in Singapore.
At an opening event graced by Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim, IDA did not reveal the number of young companies that will be hosted at the facility at launch. Steve Leonard, IDA’s executive deputy chairman, however, noted that there has been keen interest from the startup community.
Meanwhile, IIPL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Singapore Press Holdings and US global accelerator Plug and Play to run a corporate accelerator programme that will build digital media startups. The first run is expected to start by the middle of this year.
