The large-screen Nexus 6 is finally shipping in Singapore today, but with a higher price than in the United States and only in a version with less storage capacity.
Coming four months after the 6-inch “phablet” from Motorola was unveiled, the device features a “clean” version of Android, without the often pesky bells and whistles from other phone makers.
It also sports the latest “Lollipop” version of Android, with the usual Nexus promise of new software updates as soon as they become available.
The Nexus 6 model coming to Singapore will sport 32GB of storage, so those looking for more capacity will be disappointed the 64GB version isn’t made available, at least for now.
Like other Nexus devices, the Nexus 6 doesn’t come with a microSD card slot, presumably because Google wants users to consume content over the Net. So, the lack of a 64GB version could put off some users here.
The phone is also not cheap in Singapore, with a sticker price of S$998 at retail stores islandwide. The US version is sold at US$649.99 or just S$886. That’s more than S$100 cheaper, if you are willing to forego local warranty and are able to buy it overseas.
The hardware, though, is top-notch. The Quad HD screen boasts of a 2,560 x 1,440 – the sharpest in the business, along with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and LG G3.
At the same time, the large 3,220mAh battery should help users get through a day despite the big screen drawing more power. With support for Qi wireless charging, it can be placed on a compatible charger to be juiced up as well.
Under the hood, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor and 3GB of memory provide a zippy engine to get apps running smoothly.
