Samsung’s new flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, are coming to Singapore on April 11, with pre-orders open just minutes ago at 10am today.
The Galaxy S6 will cost from S$998 for a basic version with 32GB of storage. A 64GB model goes for S$1,148 while an 128GB one will set you back S$1,288.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S6 Edge will cost S$1,168, S$1,298 and S$1,448 for the three models with the varying internal storage included.
There’s a reason why Samsung is offering so many variants in terms of storage this time. The devices won’t come with the microSD card slot that has been a feature of previous Android devices from the South Korean company.
So users will have to ensure they have enough storage onboard for their apps and multimedia content.
As usual, Samsung has thrown in the full works in terms of hardware. The engine is a 64-bit, octa-core processor assisted by a handy 3GB of RAM.
Both phones offer a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen with a crisp 2,560 x 1,440 resolution, though the Galaxy S6 Edge has the curved edges on both sides of the display, while the Galaxy S6 offers a conventional flat screen.
The models shipping here will support 4G+ connections of up to 300Mbps, which is just as well since telecom operators are fast upgrading their networks to provide the faster speeds.
The two new phones from Samsung are the biggest rethink for the smartphone market leader in years, after disappointing sales for its previous Galaxy S5 last year.
The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will both feature metal and glass, in a bid to counter criticism of its “cheap” plastic designs in previous models.
Both are also touted to offer a cleaner software interface without much of the junk software that users have complained about.
However, the versions shipping in Singapore will still come re-installed with a number of apps such as GigOut! Plus, a concert promotion app, and Toggle, MediaCorp’s online video service.
Check out our first impressions of the two new phones here.
I have had the Note 3 for nearly 2 years now. The past 6 months its performance has gotten worse. The screen goes black or freezes, sometimes restarting itself, just to name a few. I like the Edge but not sure if I will ever buy Samsung again as I am really disappointed in it. Hate to say it but am waiting for the new Iphone to go on sale next month.
Yes, it’s true some of the phones suffer from “bit rot”. The software on them just gets clogged up with cached items and settings or upgrades over the years. It used to be a Windows problem but it’s seen in many Android devices that are loaded with a lot of junkware. I’m not a fan of Samsung’s Android interface. Sony, LG and Xiaomi do a better job, I feel, in not adding too much junk to the interface. They may be wr
Thanks for your reply! I will have a look at LG.
