Uber-like courier service promises speedy deliveries

Need to deliver a document or parcel to a client urgently? Zap Delivery, an on-demand express courier service app, promises to help you do that in under two hours.

Zap Delivery was conceived in 2014 in response to numerous delivery misfortunes that the founders faced. It features a patent-pending, authentication technology that replaces the arbitrary signatures traditional couriers usually use to confirm delivery receipts.

This process ensures that items arrive not only safely, but also to the rightful recipients. Additionally, the app features real-time tracking that allows senders to know the exact location of their items, every step of the way.

“With this app, we hope to transform and disrupt the way the traditional logistics industry works,” said Michael Tan, co-founder and chief executive officer of Zap Delivery.

Unlike traditional courier firms, Zap Delivery taps on a network of crowd-sourced courier partners to provide its service.

The Uber-like app matches courier partners with the nearest customers who need immediate service within their vicinity. Courier partners can then act on delivery requests immediately, without having to go through a hub-and-spoke network used by traditional courier services.

Partners are also free to choose their preferred modes of transportation – from driving, cycling, to hopping onto the public transportation network.

Zap Delivery has already established a network of over 500 courier partners, all of whom have passed stringent qualification and background checks. The service is now available on iOS and Android mobile devices.

The cost of the service is based on the delivery distance, from S$1 per km for documents and S$1.25 for parcels, but be prepared to pay more for deliveries during peak hours and on weekends.
