Industry veteran Peter Kaliaropoulos is set to take over as StarHub CEO on July 9, the telecom operator said this morning.
Known as Peter K, he will join Singapore’s number two telco from Zain in Saudi Arabia, where he was appointed CEO just last year.
His experience includes stints in a number of wireless and telcos including BT, Telstra, Optus, Clear, Batelco and Ooredoo. He is also a former senior executive at StarHub when the company started operations in Singapore in April 2000.
The new man takes over from current StarHub CEO Tan Tong Hai, who had announced in November last year that he was stepping down.
This started an “extensive and rigorous global executive search” for a new leader, said the company, at a time when it faced tough competition in the consumer market for pay-TV, mobile and broadband services.
It has been looking to pivot more towards enterprise services aimed at businesses, which form a relatively small but growing segment.
Calling Kaliaropoulos a telco veteran with a proven track record, StarHub chairman Terry Clontz said in a statement that the new hire was well qualified for the job to lead StarHub.
