When it comes to buying a laptop, there’s almost always the trade-off between portability and performance. Well, not with the Dynabook Portégé X30W-J, a premium convertible laptop that is light and easy to carry around yet a heavyweight in performance.
Tipping the scales at just 989g*, it is the world’s lightest^ 13-inch convertible laptop that features Intel’s latest 11th generation Core processor and Iris Xe graphics that promise improved performance on the go.
The new Dynabook is built with a strong yet lightweight magnesium alloy on both the LCD cover and base. The thin bezels, which incorporate a slim front-facing HD webcam, also add to the sleek design.
This gives the 13.3-inch laptop a smaller 12-inch footprint, which makes it easy to pack into a bag or simply carry around by hand between meeting rooms or around your home.
Good news is, this portable design does not come with any compromise in terms of performance. The case itself is built to the MIL-810G military standard for extreme durability, while the Full HD screen features an IGZO display that shows off crisp and clear images.
Under the hood, users will find an 11th-generation Intel quad-core processor with the brand new Intel Iris Xe graphics capability that delivers a clear performance leap for content creation or collaboration over older laptops.
The Portégé X30W-J can also pack in as much as 32GB of DDR4 memory, which is good enough for just about any task you can throw at it today, while ample storage space of up to 1TB from the onboard solid state drive will handle most files easily.
More than just a regular laptop, the Portégé X30W-J is also a versatile workhorse that fits in well in different scenarios, whether you are rushing out a report at the office or surfing the Web while sipping a cuppa at a cafe.
That’s because it is a 2-in-1 convertible laptop that does double duty as both a tablet and a notebook. Flip over the screen from the traditional clamshell layout and you get a large-screen tablet. Prop it up like a “tent” and it can be great for watching a video on.
Alternatively, you can also use it as a table-top device for 1-on-1 collaboration or turn the screen around to share some information with a group of people sitting opposite you, across the table, for example.
The magic behind these five usage modes is the hinge, which has been evaluated for durability in one of the toughest routines, which include opening and closing the lid 20,000 times on a test machine.
Usability was a clear goal for the designers at Dynabook, when they first came up with the Portégé X30W-J on the drawing board.
Like the Portégé machines of old, loved by laptop owners who appreciated their portability and performance, the new Dynabook laptop sports a host of well-thought-out features that made life easier for users.
It comes with a Wacom Active Stylus Pen with 4,096 levels of pressure, for example, to offer a realistic writing and scribbling experience.
Whether you are simply jotting down notes at a meeting or patiently working on a hand-drawn image, this stylus is a handy companion to the anti-glare touch-screen. Even signing off on a digital document and filling in forms will be easier.
And despite its small size, the new Dynabook laptop also comes with three USB 3.1 ports, including a full-sized USB-A port and two USB-C (Thunderbolt 4) ports, on the sides.
This means there’s no need to bring an additional adapter to simply connect up your mouse, memory drive, monitor or other peripherals.
There is also an HDMI port so you can easily plug in, say, an external projector or TV screen for a presentation. Again, no need to fumble for an adapter, like on other thin and light laptops, because the port is built into the side of the Dynabook laptop.
It is also built for the new work styles of today. Onboard are dual beam-forming microphones that provide excellent noise cancellation for crystal clear voice conferencing, virtually free of ambient background noise.
Of course, you can always fire up your favourite music tracks or movies on the Portégé X30W-J’s Harmon Kardon speakers at full blast. With support for Dolby Atmos, the laptop will bring an added dimension through the virtual surround sound.
As a serious corporate workhorse, the Portégé X30W-J comes with the necessary security on the go. That is a must today to keep out cyber threats coming through from different vectors, such as e-mails or even wireless hotspots, for example.
A customised, in-house BIOS created by Dynabook provides a solid foundation to keep the laptop from being tampered with, while support for TPM 2.0 and a fingerprint reader enable access by the right users only.
All this would useless, of course, if the laptop doesn’t last as long as your work day. This is why the Portégé X30W-J has been tested to run on battery for 16 hours** before needing a recharge.
Plus, it is able to “instant wake”, so it is ready to go the moment you flip open the cover or tap on the screen. In other words, ready when you are.
