Amazon Web Services (AWS) is doubling down on its investment in Singapore with the opening of its second office in the central business district. Located at IOI Central Boulevard Towers, it will also serve as its Asia-Pacific headquarters.
Unveiled yesterday, the new AWS Asia Pacific Hub spans over 360,000 sq ft across eight floors and can accommodate up to 3,000 employees.
The new office reinforces AWS’s commitment to invest an additional S$12 billion into its existing cloud infrastructure in Singapore from 2024 to 2028.
This is projected to contribute S$23.7 billion to Singapore’s GDP by 2028 and support 12,300 full-time equivalent jobs annually in local businesses.
Marking Amazon’s 30th anniversary and the 15th anniversary of AWS’s Singapore cloud region, the new hub is designed to foster innovation, collaboration, and customer engagement.
Dr Janil Puthucheary, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information, said at the launch that AWS’s expansion reflects strong confidence in Singapore’s role as a global digital hub.
Beyond its infrastructure investments, Amazon is playing a critical role in Singapore’s digital skills development. AWS is a key partner in the government’s Digital Enterprise Blueprint, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in their digital transformation.
AWS has also partnered with the Infocomm Media Development Authority to provide technical workshops, particularly in cybersecurity and cloud adoption.
Dr. Puthucheary emphasised the importance of industry collaboration, stating that tech companies like AWS, with cutting-edge technologies and global expertise, are valuable partners in driving Singapore’s digital transformation.
He urged AWS to deepen ties with educational institutions and training providers to equip Singaporeans with future-ready skills in software engineering, machine learning, and data center operations.
Jeff Johnson, AWS’ managing director of ASEAN, said: “This investment, along with our ongoing plans across the region, underscores our belief in Singapore’s position as a leading technology hub.”
AWS’s new regional hub will house over 100 teams and feature spaces designed for collaboration, including dedicated innovation rooms, hands-on technical workshops, and networking areas for customers and partners.
